Harris County criminal records

Harris County's state District Courts hear felony cases. The Harris County District Clerk criminal courts page explains court structure, jurisdiction, locations, and contacts. The District Clerk records search supports public case, party, docket, document, and background searches, but registration may be required and the search covers Harris County only. It excludes federal, other-county, Justice of the Peace, and municipal Class C misdemeanor records.

Municipal courts and local records

Harris County Criminal Courts at Law handle Class A and B misdemeanors and appeals from Justice of the Peace and municipal courts. Harris County Justice Courts handle fine-only criminal matters, including many traffic and citation cases. Houston Municipal Courts handle city ordinance violations and fine-only Class C misdemeanors. These are separate record systems from the felony District Clerk docket.

Harris County jail and custody information

The Harris County Sheriff Jail Information page is the official starting point for inmate search, visitation, bonding, court/offense information, and jail contacts. The Sheriff lists 713-755-5300 for incarcerated-person information and 346-286-1600 for general information. Jail status, housing, booking date, charges, bond, and court dates are dynamic and should not be hard-coded. Texas Department of Criminal Justice custody is separate.

Local police records

For Houston police records, use the Houston Police Department Public Information Requests page for open-records requests, incident reports, and HPD arrest records. HPD records cover the Houston Police Department only; Harris County Sheriff, constable, state, federal, and other municipal records must be requested from their own agencies.

Texas statewide record sources

The Texas DPS Criminal History Name Search is the public Texas Criminal History Conviction Database. The DPS criminal-history FAQ explains public-access limits and name-based search cautions. A name search can produce false matches or miss records and is not a complete national, federal, or fingerprint-confirmed background check. State-prison custody uses TDCJ separately.

City pages and local search areas

Houston is the primary city-page candidate because it is the county seat and has the District Clerk, Criminal Courts at Law, Municipal Courts, Sheriff, jail, and police-record sources. Pasadena, Baytown, and other municipalities require separate local-court and police-source treatment.

Prefer an official source? For official Harris County sources, start with the District Clerk criminal courts page and the Sheriff Jail Information page. Houston Municipal Courts and Justice Courts are separate local sources.
